Engagement models

How Oracle licensing consulting is priced.

Three models, one principle. Oracle licensing consulting is priced by fixed fee, retainer, or gain share. We scope first, then quote against defined work, so the cost is known before the engagement begins.

PricingThe models.

What you pay, and why it is structured this way.

Oracle licensing consulting is priced under three engagement models: a fixed fee for defined scope work, a monthly retainer for ongoing advisory, and a gain share arrangement where part of the fee tracks measurable savings. We do not publish list prices because Oracle estates differ too much in product mix, deployment topology, and contractual history for a single number to mean anything. Instead we scope the work, then quote against that scope.

That discipline protects the buyer. A quote tied to a defined deliverable cannot drift, and a gain share component cannot be invoked unless we actually remove exposure you can see. Every model is designed so the cost of advice is a fraction of the value at stake, whether that value is a contested Oracle Database licensing finding, a disputed audit claim, or a ULA position worth several million dollars at certification.

The fee is never the number that matters. The number that matters is the exposure we remove, and the advice is priced as a fraction of it.

The method behind every engagement is the same regardless of how it is priced; you can read the four phase framework on our approach page. What follows is how the three models work, when each fits, and how they combine.

Three modelsFixed · Retainer · Gain share.

Choose the structure that fits the situation.

Model One

Fixed fee

A single agreed price for defined scope work: a licence position assessment, a contract review, a deployment measurement, or a discrete piece of audit support. Scope and deliverables are fixed in writing before work starts, so the cost never moves.

Best whenThe scope is clear and bounded. Most assessments, contract reviews, and second opinions are fixed fee.
Model Two

Monthly retainer

A recurring fee for ongoing buyer side advisory: audit readiness, licence position monitoring, renewal preparation, and on call support through a contract cycle. The retainer keeps a specialist beside you between the moments that matter.

Best whenYou face a renewal window, an active vendor relationship, or a multi year ULA that needs continuous oversight.
Model Three

Gain share

Part of the fee is contingent on measurable value: the reduction against a documented audit claim, or the savings against a renewal baseline. It aligns our incentive directly with yours and is common where exposure is large and quantifiable.

Best whenExposure is significant and measurable, as in audit defence and high value ULA negotiations.

Why buyer side advisory pays for itself.

Across more than 750 engagements the firm has reduced audit claims by an average of 70 percent and returned over $300M in measurable savings to clients. On a typical engagement the advisory fee is a small fraction of the exposure removed, which is why the question is rarely whether the work pays for itself and almost always how much it returns. Anonymised outcomes are documented in our case studies, where the claim value, the settlement value, and the percentage reduction are all stated.

Because we are an independent buyer side advisory with no Oracle reseller margin and no implementation revenue, the fee is the only thing we earn, and it is structured to be recovered many times over by the position we secure. QuestionsPricing FAQ.

Common questions about how we charge.

How is Oracle licensing consulting priced?

Under three models: a fixed fee for defined scope work such as a licence position assessment, a monthly retainer for ongoing advisory and audit readiness, and a gain share model where part of the fee is tied to measurable savings against a documented Oracle claim or renewal baseline.

Do you publish fixed prices?

No. Oracle estates vary too widely in product mix, deployment, and contractual history for a list price to be meaningful. We scope every engagement first, then quote a fixed fee or retainer against that defined scope so the cost is known before work begins.

What is a gain share engagement?

Part of our fee is contingent on the value we deliver, measured as the reduction against a documented Oracle audit claim or the savings against a renewal baseline. It is common in audit defence and ULA work where the exposure is large and quantifiable.

Which model is best for an Oracle audit?

Active audits usually suit a fixed fee for the initial defensive assessment, often combined with a gain share component on the settlement reduction. This caps the buyer's downside while tying part of the fee to the size of the claim we remove.

Does buyer side Oracle advisory pay for itself?

On most engagements the fee is a fraction of the exposure removed. Across 750+ engagements the firm has cut audit claims by an average of 70 percent and returned over $300M in savings, so the advisory cost is typically recovered many times over.

Can pricing models be combined?

Yes. A common structure is a fixed fee for the assessment phase, a retainer through a renewal cycle, and a gain share element tied to the negotiated outcome. The mix is set during scoping to match the engagement risk and timeline.

Scope the work before you commit.

A short, confidential scoping call sizes the engagement and the likely return. We quote against defined scope, so you know the cost before any work begins.
